The drop in visibility in the search results of Blogg.se is making swedish SEOs chat.
Blogg.se is a major blogging platform in Sweden and sunk in the SERPs making a couple ripples…

Ok, so is Blogg.se drop to be accounted to the Penguin’s update?

The short answer is:

NO

Well, clearly, the date don’t match:

Penguin Update: 24th of May
Fall of blogg.se: occured at least one week earlier (at least before the 19th)

The explanation then? some might have an idea.
Please email me if you know more about the causes but I am specially interested about the SEO consequences. Tack Tack.

<Noscript>Hidden content when Javascript is not activated</Noscript>

The SetUp:

You can test disabling javascript and you will see where my Noscript tag is located.

The Result:

The links included in the noscript tags have been crawled
The page they link to are indexed.(Test indexation)
Is link juice carried? My links are too weak to check.

Please let me know if you have carried out more test on Noscript tags and have a better idea if link juice flows through. /Hervé

In a page, we embed a javascript code able to decode a couple of encoded base64 links.
I wondered:

• Is Google able to run the complex JS code we are giving?
• If the links are discovered, are the target pages going to be indexed?
• Is any page rank going to be flowed though the Javascript links?

The links I used looked like:

The results:

YES, Google can run the script and decode the encoded links. It doesn’t come as a surprise but it is always good to check for yourself. Now more surprising:

• Yes google index the link.
• Yes google pass linkjuice. The page has a unique backlink to and had no PR.

Mid October, a UK site got infected by a malware. The malware spread though the ad serving system to different page types. The development team cleaned up the malware and patched the system in a day. After having cleaned up the site from the malware, I requested a malware review from the webmaster tools console.

2 days later, our organic traffic from Google.co.uk dropped significantly. The traffic coming from the page types that had been infected dropped from about 80%.

2 weeks later, I submitted the same pages Googlebot visited on the day the site hosted the malware in site maps. I didn’t however any notice in crawl on GWT.
4 weeks later, no sign of improvement. I am submitting a reconsideration as a last hope.

For more info, I found an article about a similar situation. Their rankings got back after 10 days.

Update 10th December:

• Request for reconsideration
• 10 days later, we received Google’s usual email answer
• A week later, our rankings are back for one page type

Add a column to the database and then add that field to the pivot table.

For instance if we want to count the unique occurrences of URL/Keyword, we shall add in the raw data:
- the row URL/Keyword in the raw data.
- In the first data row, enter a formula that refers to the URL and Kws columns. For example:

Copy the formula down to all rows in the database.
Then, add the field to the data area of the Excel pivot table.

The facts:

JP cenney has been busted for using is black SEO technics. After a 3 month penalization, everybody shouts “JP cenney is back in the search results!”. Let’s check it out

But first, The Google police officer, Matt Cutts confirmed the sanction on JP had been lifted. Where do they end up in the search now?

The New York Times article mentioned, JP used to rank really well for the keyword “dresses”.

When I search for “dresses” I cannot find JP in the first 100 results and when I restrict my search:

Using a proxy, their mobile site appear first: A subdomain that could have not have been concerned by the penalization. Not a very strong come back.
